And now a word from our sponsor? Well, my colleague would be more accurate. Kim Ricketts — of Kim Ricketts Book Events — is not only one of Seattle’s most intriguing personalities, she is also one of the most innovative. If you are unfamiliar with the series she produces — Words & Wine, Cooks & Books and The Good Life — you are missing out on some of the smartest, silliest, shocking and comforting cultural events (with booze!) staged anywhere in the country. I am proud to host two of the series and urge you to add your name to Kim’s mailing list. Read her special offer below and you’ll get two free tickets to, well, I’ll let her tell you…

Hi Friends,
As many of you know it is my lifelong goal to connect people, authors and books in new and surprising ways, and while we have been creating events for 6 years now, it has come to our attention that most people in our city don’t know about Book Events. I believe that anyone would enjoy our events-especially when they understand that our events with authors are candid and unscripted events, and you truly never know what will happen! Recently at a Words & Wine evening with novelist Andre Dubus III, Warren Etheredge convinced Andre to talk about his years as a street-fighter-and actually got Andre to stand up and show him how to throw a punch.
In our Cooks & Books series we’ve had Jacques Pepin launch into song (love ballad-in French, naturally), Thomas Keller talk about his love for In-n-Out Burgers, Marco Pierre White get in a fight, and we’ve shared dinner with some of the great chefs working today.
Our newest series, The Good Life, [ed: at which Mariel Hemingway dropped the F-bomb as if trying to obliterate Tora Bora] consists of evenings with authors who can give us tools to “live better”-while we are enjoying appetizers by Tom Douglas. We think of it as Seattle’s Most Helpful Happy Hour: meet friends for a bite and a drink, plus get informed, entertained-AND you get a signed book to take home.
We have two exciting events this Fall at Town Hall: on Nov 2, Freakonomics authors Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner will talk about their new book, SuperFreakonomics
, and on Nov 17, Al Gore will talk about his new book, Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis
.
We are writing to ask you to loop some of your friends into our events, by adding them to our mailing list-and for each of you who gets five new friends to sign up to our list before Sept 30, we will host you +1 as our guests for the Oct 2 Words & Wine evening with novelist Sara Paretsky! Forward this email to your friends who love books, food, wine and smart conversation, and when they sign up, make sure they list your name in the “who referred you?” line. Our sign up link can be found here: http://www.kimricketts.com/
Who might want to be on our mailing list? Co workers, book club compatriots, neighbors, friends who love to cook-anyone who would enjoy meeting/chatting/learning new things/perhaps sharing dinner with a smart author-and people like you.
Thanks for your support and help,
Kim and all at Book Events
