kerry-davidProducers are often derided as necessary evils. Some are even unnecessary. (You know who you are Scott R!) However, a rare few prove themselves to be integral to a project, insightful about the creative process and delightful to be around. Kerry David is one such exception to the rule, an accomplished producer and a good friend. I met her a few years ago at the Willamette Writers Conference and, immediately, I was wowed by her intelligence and authenticity. Getting to know her, I have only been further impressed — by her rock-star past and her award-winning productions.

Kerry’s latest film, LIKE DANDELION DUST, starring Mira Sorvino, Barry Pepper and Cole Hauser, has scored top prizes at film festivals in Palm Springs, Stony Brook, Sonoma, Sedona, Vail, Vegas and San Luis Obispo! Given spoons, audiences would eat up the adoptive drama like a pint of Molly Moon‘s addicting Salted Caramel Ice Cream. (Please, please sponsor me, Molly Moon!) Kerry produced MY DATE WITH DREW, too; it’s the highest-grossing indie ever… in relation to its budget.

Kerry is also the founder of IndieProducer.net, an invaluable resource for her peers and all filmmaking aspirants. Recently, she published GETTING TO THE “YES,” a substantial piece instructing others how to replicate her success. If you’re the least bit interested in getting ahead in this business, stop reading and order your copy now. You may look back on this (trans)action as the wisest investment you ever made. But don’t take it from me, read on for Kerry’s humble pitch…

Over the past few years I’ve been mentoring filmmakers and speaking at film schools about all the ways to navigate the Hollywood Highway. It occurred to me that I should write an article on how I have been successful in “Getting to the “yes”. And you can access it from the iP home page (www.indieproducer.net) – top left corner just click on the link.

It’s an insightful twenty-six page article that sheds light on some of the ways you can rethink your project or career to find success and I even explains why hearing “no” can sometimes be a good thing!

I outline some of the things you can do to better prepare your project for a resounding “yes” when you pitch it and I share some secrets for navigating all those Hollywood “no’s” that get you to the “yes”.

This article is for everyone, not just writers, producers, actors and directors – it’s designed to help every level of filmmaker in every area of filmmaking think outside the box – so your project will stand out. Twenty-six pages of tips: $9.99!

There you have it. What are you waiting for… Kerry’s credentials? Well, here goes…
