Now, I’m as strong a proponent of consciousness’ many virtues as you’ll find. I rarely shut up about it. But this promotional copy is just silly.
As long as “mainstream science remains materialist”, no one is justified in declaring a “paradigm shift” or any other sort of “revolution”. That’s like saying there’s a paradigm shift in economics because “a growing number” of fringe researchers advocate returning to the gold standard.
I am all for drumming up interest in consciousness studies, but don’t be misled by ballyhoo that it ties into subatomic physics in any serious way. That’s mysticism and it doesn’t reflect well on either QM or psych. Or mysticism, for that matter, which I have nothing against when it isn’t trying to leech prestige from other fields.
