Body shots and belly laughs with Rachel Dratch

I never thought I’d get to spend a night with Rachel Dratch drinking, laughing and wrestling in salsa. Truth is, I didn’t really. However, I did see SPRING BREAKDOWN in which she stars along with equally lovely yucksters Amy Poehler and Parker Posey. And, I did sit down with the SNL vet and her co-writer/co-conspirator, director Ryan Shiraki, at the Pan Pacific, Seattle’s classiest hotel, for an extended chat about zen philosophy  — Right, Boo Boo? — and broad comedy… in every sense. 

SPRING BREAKDOWN — to be released on dvd soon — is an inspired bit of lunacy, a pastiche of 80s flicks and beach-bound, frat-boy shtick, that benefits from the presence of some of the funniest ladies around. In addition to the tawdry threesome highlighted above, Jane Lynch, Amber Tamblyn and Missi Pyle spike their own punch-lines in the sands of South Padre. (Pyle, in particular, nails her laughs as an insatiable lush, part Foster Brooks, part Anna Nicole Smith.) Faster-paced than a wet t-shirt contest, less filling than Mia Farrow‘s current “diet,” SPRING BREAKDOWN is well worth trading your beads.
