Paul, a 12 year old boy living in a small town in Pomerania, prays for a miracle as his mother dies of cancer. At a loss, he decides to go on a pilgrimage to the holy shrine of the Black Madonna in the town of Cz?stochowa, 220 miles away. On his way, Paul meets Andrzej, a physical education teacher for alcoholics. They discover they share a common love for sports. This film examines fundamental questions about faith in God, and the meaning and purpose of life.
