Class dismissed. Often, this is the critics’ knee-jerk response to big-budget action pics, as if commercial fare couldn’t possibly have redeeming virtues. But look closely at any major Hollywood movie and you’ll find significant contributions that warrant discussion and praise. Film is a collaborative medium, after all, thus certain parts (not their sum) can exceed the whole.
