There are many things I DOUBT about John Patrick Shanley‘s adaptation of his own play. Did he do it justice? Would Cherry Jones have been even better than Meryl Streep? Given the Catholic Church’s questionable self-discipline, if Phillip Seymour Hoffman‘s character really did molest the kid would he have been fast-tracked for Pope? The one element of the movie I don’t DOUBT
is the performance of Viola Davis; she’s tough, tender, smart and sweet. The character is well-drawn on the page, but is more fully realized by the incredible actress. Hear me roar…
