Must we respect the dead? Heck, I’m not even sold on the living. When assessing Oscar® odds, must we automatically succumb to the notion that the dead guy deserves the statuette? Peter Finch was terrific in NETWORK and scored the first posthumously-awarded Oscar®. Will Heath Ledger win the sympathy vote as well? Will goodness prevail or will it be a dark night indeed? Yes, and may I say that the fake trailer for the monk movie at the beginning of Tropic Thunder…BEFORE RDJr. goes into ‘blackface’…was SO enticing…I still want to see it. Even though the rational part of my brain realizes it’s fake. Tobey Maguire deserves some props for that too…and maybe the long lost group Enigma…but agreed. Robert Downey Jr. should NOT go home empty-handed tomorrow.
