Every year, a movie slips through the cracks faster than a greased-up Lara Flynn Boyle can slip through the eye of a needle. In 2007, it was Karen Moncrieff‘s THE DEAD GIRL. Last year, it was THE WACKNESS.
True, writer-director Jonathan Levine garnered an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best First Screenplay, but otherwise the movie was overlooked.
In light of this oversight, The Warren Report is proud to showcase THE WACKNESS as part of our Distinguishing Features series tomorrow — Saturday, February 21st, 2009 at 12:05pm — at the Henry Art Gallery. Members are invited to sign up now and encouraged to bring non-members to this screening. This is my prize to all of you for your on-going support of The Warren Report.
THE WACKNESS stars Sir Ben Kingsley, Josh Peck, Olivia Thirlby, Mary-Kate Olson, Famke Janssen and Method Man. **Following the film, I will screen my interviews with Jonathan Levine, Joshua Peck and Olivia Thirlby.**
Please note this special screening replaces LAST BALL which will not be seen due to filmmaker Peter Callahan‘s unfortunate complications. In his words: “Due to to an unfortunate combination of last minute health and personal issues, I could not make the flight this morning and will be not be coming to Seattle this weekend. I profoundly apologize for the inconvenience this causes to you and others. I’m not a flaky person, and normally in the habit of keeping such engagements come hell or high water, so it’s particularly difficult for me to cancel such a thing at the last minute and I feel just awful about it. I hope to somehow make this up to you all in some way, and to any film fans who were looking forward to Saturday’s screening, either by screening the film or the new one [AGAINST THE CURRENT] out there at a future date, or in some other way.”
Let me add my apologies to Mr. Callahan’s. I do hope we can share LAST BALL at a later date, but for now, please come enjoy one of the year’s most entertaining movies…. and preview one of the Independent Spirit Award nominees…
Getting fitted for my tux,
Warren
