If we’re willing to accept the animated Robin Williams in dramatic roles, why can’t we abide animation in dramatic competition. Pixar has been making some of Hollywood’s best films for years, WALL*E, perhaps, is its crowning achievement. Doesn’t the movie merit Best Picture consideration or an overhaul of its current, ghettoizing category?

so..just curious here…do you think “presto” (made by pixar) should win for best animated short? just saw both shorts programs last night @ the varsity, and while i thoroughly enjoyed “presto,” i do think that i’m leaning towards “this way up” as being the best (my friend who accompanied me was more into the curiously french-titled-yet-from-japan “la maison en petits cubes.”)

To be fair, I have yet to see ALL of the animated short nominees, so I cannot (yet) declare PRESTO! the slam-dunk winner. Also, I should have been more specific, the renaming of the category should only be for Best Animated Feature. There is substantial, worldwide competition in the animated short film field.
