Steven Rinella is the author of The Scavenger’s Guide to Haute Cuisine and a correspondent for Outside Magazine, The New Yorker, Men’s Journal and Slate.com. In 2005 he won a lottery permit to hunt for a wild buffalo in the Alaskan wilderness, and managed to shoot it and then had to raft it back to civilization while being trailed by grizzly bears and suffering from hyperthermia. American Buffalo: In Search of a Lost Icon is more than a tale of his adventure; it is a history of the animal that embodies the American West and what its death and survival has meant to our culture.
